With 2017 marking 40 years since the Battle of Lewisham, to commemorate the event a day of awareness will be held on Saturday 8th April 2017. The day will feature a host of activities including a visual exhibition documenting The Battle, talks and live poetry.
The day will feature a ceremonial walk, which revisits the route where the Battle of Lewisham took place. South London is a community rich in culture, diversity and history, however the Battle of Lewisham is often forgotten and under-appreciated. The walk is designed to acknowledge the racial tensions that were ever present in London during the 70s.
A Tribute will be paid to the late Darcus Howe, he is the man speaking to the people on the poster above, who sadly passed away on Sunday. An activist, writer and true inspiration; may he rest in peace.
